Inter’s ailing pursuit of Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek appears to have received a knockout blow after the player’s agent confirmed he would only leave for ‘an absolute top club’.

Van de Beek was one of the stars of the Dutch side’s journey to the Champions League semi-final last season, scoring the winning goal in their 1-0 win over Tottenham in April.

Speaking to Voetbal International, the player’s agent Sjaak Swart insisted his player was aiming for the top and would only consider leaving Ajax if a giant came calling.

“Danny is a player capable of adapting to any style of play which privileges organised, attacking football,” he said.

“Those are the conditions in which he produces his best. Ajax are a club where these conditions exist but it’s clear every player has ambitions to reach the top.

“Danny isn’t someone who makes decisions based on his bank balance, though. If ever he were to leave Ajax it would only be for an absolute top club.”
