Inter want to complete a deal for Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella before the end of this month, Gazzetta dello Sport reported today.

The Nerazzurri have agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old and must now reach a deal with Cagliari, who value Barella at €50 million.

The two clubs will meet either on Friday or at the beginning of next week in the hope of thrashing out an agreement so negotiations do not drag on into the summer.

Inter need the deal to be finalised before 30 June so they can secure capital gains from the young players they intend to include as makeweights.

Federico Dimarco could be sent to Cagliari to lower the cash portion of the deal, although the Rossoblu are also interested in defender Alessandro Bastoni – whom Inter would only agree to send on loan – and Jiangsu Suning striker Eder.

Inter will sign another midfielder this summer in addition to Barella but it will not be Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka, for whom the paper flatly denied rumours of a done deal.
