PSV Eindhoven forward and reported Inter target Steven Bergwijn has controversially opened the door to a move back to his former club Ajax this summer.

Bergwijn spent two years playing in Ajax’s youth system before leaving to join PSV aged 14, where he has since scored 23 goals in 115 appearances for the club’s first team.

Speaking to Voetbal International today, Bergwijn appeared to distance rumours linking him to Inter by admitting he was flattered by the Eredivisie champions’ interest.

“I’m aware they’re interested in me and I can’t deny it pleases me,” the 21-year-old said.

“I understand this link may not delight PSV’s supporters or the club, who have always been perfect with me, but at the same time we have to remember we’re professionals and must remain so.

“I have very clear ideas about my future, what interests me is playing regularly.

“I need to play to improve at my age and this will be the determining factor in deciding my future. I won’t be making a decision based on money.”

Bergwijn had been mooted as a potential replacement for Ivan Perisic, but the Croatian now appears more likely to stay at Inter following Antonio Conte’s appointment as head coach.
