Former Milan midfielder Antonio Nocerino has backed Inter to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title under new boss Antonio Conte.

Conte was officially unveiled as the Nerazzurri’s head coach on a three-year deal last week and acknowledged expectations have risen with his arrival.

Nocerino told tuttojuve.com the Italian’s mentality will ensure they give Juventus a run for their money next season.

“I think Inter will fight right to the end with Conte because they’ve appointed a competent coach who’s used to winning things and has an incredible mentality,” he said.

“Inter will be a battle-hardened side under Conte and opposing teams will find it very difficult to overcome them, which is why I think Juventus will struggle to defend their title.”

Conte won the league title in both of his first seasons in charge of Juventus and Chelsea, despite the clubs having finished seventh and tenth respectively in their previous campaigns.
