Fiorentina’s new owner Rocco Commisso cannot afford to sell Federico Chiesa to Inter or Juventus as his first act in charge of the club, according to his predecessor Diego Della Valle.

Chiesa reportedly agreed personal terms with the Bianconeri earlier this week and is known to be keen for a new challenge, having been the shining light of Fiorentina’s last three seasons.

However, Della Valle today told Corriere dello Sport the 21-year-old must respect the contract he has through to 2022 with the Viola.

“Chiesa has to stay for at least another season,” Della Valle said.

“I always respect contracts and I make sure other people respect them as well. Chiesa is a central figure in Fiorentina’s plans under Commisso.

“He cannot announce himself to Fiorentina supporters without Chiesa on board and he knows that full well.

“If we sold the club to him it’s because we thought we were doing what was best for Fiorentina…”
