Andrea Pinamonti has revealed he and his Italy Under-20 teammates believe they have what it takes to go all the way and win the Under-20 World Cup in Poland.
Firstly he discussed the comparisons to the 2006 World Cup winning Italian national team.
“I like the comparison and it is an honour for me to be compared to the 2006 team. Like them, we have the right mindset to win the World Cup.
“Winning the World Cup would be incredible. We believe we can, I can’t deny it. We want to make it, we feel really close to something that would remain forever in the history of Italian football. We must be careful as we risk wasting everything and we can’t afford to after such a journey.”
He then spoke on the praise he has received from managers within the Italian national team set-up.
“I am happy when certain coaches like you, it means that you are doing well. I have made enormous sacrifices to play at certain levels and I still have a long way to go.
“In the last two years I have realised so many dreams from my debut in Serie A, then the first goal, to participate in the Under-20 World Cup and the call-up for the Under-21 European Championship.”
The youngster then revealed his footballing idol.
“My idol has always been Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as a child I dreamed of becoming like him. At Inter I trained with Mauro Icardi and in my opinion he is the most complete striker in the world. He gave me many tips and thanks to him I have improved.”
In conclusion, he was asked about his future.
“For now I only think about the World Cup. The transfer market is not in my thoughts, there will be time for that.”
