Former FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio has backed Antonio Conte to bring success back to Inter after he was appointed the club’s new head coach.
Tavecchio brought Conte to the helm of the Italian national team in 2014 after the Azzurri’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, making him the highest-paid coach in the FIGC’s history.
Speaking to Gr Parlamento, the 75-year-old said Conte would instill a winning mentality in his players at Inter and backed the Nerazzurri to challenge Juventus for the Scudetto soon.
“I speak to him regularly and I hope he can do what he’s capable of at Inter,” Tavecchio said.
“There aren’t many coaches who know how to do what he can do. I think they’ll have something to think about in Turin next season.
“Beppe Marotta’s organisational skills at an administrative level, along with Conte’s technical qualities and Inter’s financial power, means it’s natural they’ll create a team that aims for ambitious results.
“I don’t know if they’ll reach the top straightaway but what I can say is Inter have a clear strategy. Conte’s appointment goes in that direction.
“One thing you’ll never be able to say about Conte’s Inter side is that they’ve messed up their approach for a match.”
