Inter are expected to appoint Real Madrid fitness coach Antonio Pintus as part of Antonio Conte’s backroom staff in the coming days.

Gazzetta dello Sport today reported everything was in place for the 56-year-old to join the Nerazzurri, meaning Conte’s staff is now complete ahead of preseason training in July.

Pintus spent seven years working alongside Conte when he was Juventus’ fitness coach in the 1990s, which is also where he first encountered Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

“Pintus was pushed to one side by Real last season after being Zidane’s right-hand man for years,” Gazzetta said.

“He had earned himself the nickname ‘sergeant’ with Zizou, but Julen Lopetegui discarded him and now he’s decided to return to Italy and join up with Conte again.

“Pintus made a particular impression on Juventus’ French players when he was there between 1991 and 1998, because before Zidane appointed him in Madrid Didier Deschamps wanted him in his staff at Monaco.”
