Inter would not be securing any upgrade in attack if they swapped Mauro Icardi for Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku, according to one high-profile journalist.

Lukaku is thought to be Antonio Conte’s first choice up front but Inter won’t be able to sign the Belgian unless they can move Icardi on.

Sandro Sabatini spoke to Radio Sportiva about the Nerazzurri’s transfer plans amid reports Radja Nainggolan would also be following Icardi out of the club.

“I think Lukaku would be a risky deal for Inter,” Sabatini said.

“I’m struggling to see how he’s better than Icardi.

“It would be beautiful if Nainggolan returned to Cagliari should Inter sell him, but I don’t think that’s possible.”

Sabatini also advised Inter to send Andrea Pinamonti out on loan again despite the forward’s impressive performances at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Poland.

“I like him but he doesn’t seem quite ready to play for Inter yet,” he added.
