Inter striker Andrea Pinamonti risks missing this summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championships after being forced to leave Italy’s training camp with a knee injury.

Sky Sport tonight reported the 20-year-old underwent a scan with the national team’s doctors immediately after posing for a team photo.

The extent of the injury remains unclear at this stage but Pinamonti’s participation at Italy’s home Euros, which starts on Sunday, is in doubt.

The forward was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, before Italy lost against Ukraine in a controversial tie yesterday.

Pinamonti scored five goals and provided three assists while on loan at Frosinone last season but was unable to help the Ciociari avoid an immediate return to Serie B.

Inter must now decide how best to manage his immediate future, with talk of a contract extension but also of interest both in Italy and abroad.
