Antonio Conte has received reassurance from Inter they will sign Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella before preseason training begins, according to Sport Mediaset.

Inter’s management met with Conte and his backroom staff yesterday to discuss the club’s plans for the transfer market before inaugurating the new campaign on 8 July.

The Nerazzurri have agreed personal terms with Barella and must now sort out the final formalities of their agreement with Cagliari, which should include €25-30 million in cash plus Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco and Eder.

Conte also heard the club would soon complete the signing of Roma striker Edin Dzeko, as he waits impatiently to begin forming his new side.

Inter’s standoff with former captain Mauro Icardi, meanwhile, promises to continue long into the summer as the forward prepares for his summer holiday in Japan and Polynesia.

Icardi wants to stay at Inter and is counting on changing Conte’s mind about him during preseason training, assuming the club does not opt to exclude him.
