Andrea Pinamonti is all but certain to miss this summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championships in Italy after the Inter striker sustained a knee injury last week, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Pinamonti starred for the Azzurri as they reached the semi-finals of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Poland, where they were eliminated by surprise package Ukraine.

The 20-year-old was called up to Gigi Di Biagio’s 23-man squad for the Euros but left their training camp earlier this week.

“Pinamonti had already picked up a knee problem before the Ukraine game,” Gazzetta reported today.

“Then when he missed a chance in front of goalkeeper Andriy Lunin he touched his knee and winced.

“He underwent scans yesterday morning and those results will be analysed to ascertain the severity of the injury.”

Italy have until midnight on Saturday evening to replace Pinamonti in their squad should he be deemed unfit to participate.

The Azzurrini have been drawn into a group alongside Spain, Poland and Belgium for their home tournament.
