Inter will sign the best midfielder Italy has to offer if they complete a deal for Nicolo Barella, according to Cagliari’s former sporting director Stefano Capozucca.

Barella has agreed to join Inter and is waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement, with Beppe Marotta and Tommaso Giulini expected to meet this weekend.

Capozucca was Cagliari’s sporting director between 2015 and 2017 and saw the 22-year-old break into the Rossoblu’s first team.

“Barella would be an incredible signing for Inter because he’s extraordinary both on the pitch and off it,” Capozucca told FcInterNews.it.

“Nicolo doesn’t feel any pressure, you only need to look at the confidence and ease with which he’s become a starting midfielder for Italy. He’s unique in the sense he has the maturity of a veteran.

“Barella knows how to do everything in midfield: wherever you play him he makes the difference.

“He has strength and stamina but also quality, capable of scoring plenty of goals and protecting his defence. He’d be perfect for Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system and I think he’s ready to play in the Champions League too.”

Capozucca also had words of praise for Inter striker Andrea Pinamonti, whom he signed whilst working at Frosinone last season.

“Andrea matured a lot at Frosinone and will become a great striker, mark my words,” he added.

“He could have earned more if he’d gone elsewhere last year but he kept his word with us and did very well indeed.

“He could certainly be good enough to play for Inter, although I think another year on loan somewhere – perhaps with a club that has more prestige and ambition than Frosinone – would be ideal for everyone.”
