Inter are indirectly preventing Manchester City from signing Juventus full-back Joao Cancelo by cooling their interest in Danilo, according to Sky Sport.

The Premier League champions would like to bring Cancelo to the Etihad for next season, after the Portuguese international flopped in his first season with the Bianconeri.

City first need to sell Danilo in order to create space for the 25-year-old, but Inter now seem unlikely to help them out.

Antonio Conte has encouraged the club to seek a more offensive player to slot in at wing-back in his 3-5-2 system, leading them to pursue Hertha Berlin midfielder Valentino Lazaro instead.

Talks for the Austrian international were thought to be at an advanced stage last night and Inter may only need one more meeting with the Bundesliga club to close a deal.

Cancelo made 28 appearances for Inter while he was on loan from Valencia during the 2017-18 season, scoring once and making four assists.
