Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta today described new head coach Antonio Conte as a ‘top player’ and backed him to lead the club to success.

Conte signed a three-year deal with the Nerazzurri on 31 May and is now preparing for preseason training, which begins in Lugano on 8 July.

Inter presented their upcoming training camp with a press conference in the Swiss city this morning and Marotta took the opportunity to further praise Conte.

“We’ve signed a ‘top player’ to coach the team and that’s Antonio Conte,” the 62-year-old told reporters.

“Let’s hope his competence and the support the club will offer him ensure we can meet at the end of the season and say it was the right decision to come here for preseason training.”

Marotta underlined his ambition to take Inter back to the top of European football and said Lugano was the perfect place to start the club’s new ambitious campaign.

“I’ve been here at Inter since December and I’m working to reposition this prestigious club among the best in Italy and in Europe,” he added.

“We were looking for the ideal venue to start the season and it’s a source of real satisfaction to be here today.

“We know we’re in debt to all of you because we now need to repay the faith everyone here in Lugano has shown in us.”
