Antonio Conte’s past as a Juventus legend will not cause him problems as Inter’s new head coach, according to his former assistant Massimo Carrera.

Numerous Inter supporters have voiced their displeasure at seeing their club appoint a coach who used to represent the Nerazzurri’s fiercest rivals.

Carrera spent five years as Conte’s right-hand man with Juve and Italy and told Gazzetta dello Sport he didn’t expect it to be a big issue, though.

“We’re professionals and we have to go to the clubs which give us a chance to manage them,” the former Spartak Moscow coach said.

“We need to get past these things because otherwise you can only coach the clubs you’ve always supported.”

Carrera backed Conte to instill a winning mentality in his new Inter players as he prepares to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title.

“The will to win is part of Conte’s DNA,” Carrera added.

“Antonio has always had it, even when he was a young player coming through.

“He’ll give Inter a strong mentality, which means being willing to make sacrifices, put the group ahead of the individual and work together towards the same objective.”
