Former Inter manager Andrea Stramaccioni believes Inter can make things difficult for arch-rivals Juventus in the race for the Serie A title in the coming season.

“The teams I will follow most closely are Fonseca’s Roma and Conte’s Inter. Fonseca arrives at a particular moment, he is an experienced coach and will be in for a great challenge,” he told Tuttosport.

“As for Inter, the biggest thing for them this coming season will be whether they can compete for the scudetto. I am also curious to see Sarri and Juventus and what he will do with his 4-3-3 in Turin. Juventus are ahead of everyone but only because of their recent habit of winning. Inter will give them a hard time though.”

Stramaccioni then spoke on Inter winger Matteo Politano, a player he coached at youth level at Roma.

“I am proud of him. He embodies the spirit that you want to see when you go to San Siro. I am sure that he will make a contribution in Conte’s 3-5-2 because he can play in many different positions.”

He then discussed Mateo Kovacic, who has been rumoured with a return to Inter.

“He arrived at a difficult time but over the years he has shown himself to be a top level player.”

He concluded the interview by discussing Inter’s interest in Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.

“Lukaku is a striker who reminds me a little of Bobo Vieri in his prime. He combines devastating physical strength with good technique for someone his size. It is not easy to find players with those characteristics.”
