Antonio Conte was compared to former Inter boss Jose Mourinho by Pirelli’s chief executive Marco Tronchetti Provera yesterday.

Conte signed a three-year deal to become the Nerazzurri’s new head coach last month and will start preseason training on 8 July.

Tronchetti Provera is a lifelong Inter supporter and told Gr Parlamento he saw similarities between the two coaches, despite Mourinho’s treble triumph in 2010.

“Conte doesn’t need to prove anything because he’s already shown himself to be a great coach at Juventus and Chelsea,” he said.

“He just needs to keep doing what he does well and Inter will become a top club again.

“He has a determination you can compare to that of Mourinho. He works very seriously on everything and provides strong leadership.”

Tronchetti Provera also encouraged the club to sign reinforcements in midfield and attack ahead of the new season.

“I expect them to strengthen in those two areas because they’ve been up and down in recent years,” he continued.

“We’ll need to change something there in order to make the most of our defensive solidity. I think we’ll see a more aggressive Inter team under Conte.”
