Inter are on the verge of extending Roberto Samaden’s contract as the club’s academy director until 2022, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri reached four youth finals during the 2018-19 season, with their under-17 side due to play the last one against Roma on Thursday.

The Primavera, under-18s and under-16s all missed out on their respective titles but the final appearances represented another huge success for Samaden and his colleagues.

Andrea Zanchetta’s side will hope to bring home a trophy when they face the Giallorossi later in the week.

Inter have struggled recently to integrate their academy talents into the first team but Samaden’s work has been pivotal in ensuring the club’s long-term financial stability.

Financial Fair Play has heavily restricted their room for manoeuvre since 2015 and Piero Ausilio has been forced to sell off their young players to balance the books.

Inter won consecutive Campionato Primavera titles between 2016 and 2018 before losing out to Atalanta in the 2018-19 season final last week.
