Inter have told Cagliari they will not make any more improved offers for Nicolò Barella, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri’s last offer for the midfielder was €36 million plus €4 million in add-ons, with no extra players included in the deal.

Beppe Marotta has made it clear to Cagliari they will not participate in any bidding wars with other clubs, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Inter have not given up on signing Barella but if the French champions were to meet Cagliari’s €50 million asking price they would almost certainly secure the 22-year-old.

Stefano Sensi remains Inter’s first alternative in midfield, although the club have various transfer dealings on the table with Sassuolo at present.

Inter confirmed the arrivals of Matteo Politano and Eddie Salcedo on permanent deals last night but could sell other players to the Neroverdi.

Marco Pompetti, Edoardo Vergani and Andrew Gravillon all interest the Neroverdi and could be used in a part-exchange deal to secure Sensi.

Milan remain ahead in the battle to sign the Italian midfielder, however, having made their first approach long before Inter.
