Romelu Lukaku hopes to complete a move to Inter before Manchester United jet off for their preseason tour on 13 July, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Lukaku has chosen to join the Nerazzurri and already agreed personal terms, which would make him one of Serie A’s highest-paid players at €6-6.5 million per season.
The Belgian was earning €8 million at United last season but his wages would have dropped to the same figure anyway following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
United put the striker up for sale at the beginning of the summer but are unlikely to drop their asking price as far as Inter want.
Lukaku joined the Red Devils for a fee of €85 million in 2017, but his former club Everton secured a €5 million cut of any future fee should United sell him elsewhere.
United are therefore reluctant to review their initial request of €80 million, a price Inter will find it difficult to meet.
The 26-year-old met with club representatives before flying off to America on holiday and told United he wanted his future resolved before 13 June, when they begin their preseason tour in Australia.
Inter will face United in the International Champions Cup on 20 July and Lukaku hopes he can play the match in a black-and-blue shirt.
