Inter’s chief executive Alessandro Antonello today confirmed the Nerazzurri would work together with Milan to build a new stadium.

Both clubs want to knock down San Siro and replace it with a more modern stadium on the same ground, with a plan to be submitted to Milan city council soon.

Antonello joined Milan president Paolo Scaroni in Lausanne earlier to support Milan and Cortino d’Ampezzo’s joint bid to host the 2026 Winter Olympics.

“We’re going to build a new San Siro next to where the old one was in the same concession area,” Scaroni told reporters.

“The old one is going to be knocked down and building work will start to create another ground.”

La Repubblica last week reported Inter and Milan’s new stadium would cost approximately €700 million and could be ready for the start of the 2022-23 season.

Neither club was interested in renovating the current stadium because it would have taken longer and forced them to play their home fixtures at a neutral venue towards the end of building work.
