Fabio Capello has backed Inter’s plan of signing homegrown talent in this summer’s transfer window as the Nerazzurri prepare to finalise a deal for Stefano Sensi.

Sensi will join on loan with an option to buy this week but Inter have not given up on securing Nicolo Barella from Cagliari either.

Capello approved the deals in an interview with Corriere dello Sport today and praised the Nerazzurri’s formidable defensive options.

“I like Sensi and Barella a lot,” the former Juventus and Milan coach said.

“Inter are already a great team and they’re all set at the back with Diego Godin, Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij.”

Capello also offered his view on Inter’s pursuit of Romelu Lukaku, reminding supporters everything depended on Mauro Icardi’s future.

“If Icardi stays then Lukaku can’t arrive so we need to wait and see whether Inter can convince him to leave,” he added.

“I’ve read he wants to stay, and if that happens Inter will have to keep him. If Conte decides to play him then that’s fine too.”
