Inter have not made progress lately with Cagliari in their bid to sign Nicolo Barella, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Talks remain in standby with the parties refusing to budge on their current positions, despite the midfielder having already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri.

Inter’s struggles have led to reports they were planning an approach with Ajax for midfielder Donny Van de Beek, who starred in their run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Gazzetta assured the rumours were unconfirmed, though highlighted how the link was further proof of no progress being made for Barella.

Inter are expected to complete the signing of Sassuolo midfielder Stefano Sensi this week, in a deal that will help them raise more capital gains for Financial Fair Play.

Sensi’s arrival does not exclude Barella, however, with the Nerazzurri hoping they can sign both and help Antonio Conte give his new squad a more homegrown feel.
