Inter have been linked with a surprise move for Roma legend Daniele De Rossi after the midfielder left the Giallorossi last month.

La Repubblica today reported the 35-year-old wanted to continue playing in Serie A, despite having spent his entire career playing for the capital club so far.

Fiorentina and Sampdoria are the two clubs rumoured to be most interested in De Rossi, with the latter having recently appointed Eusebio Di Francesco as head coach.

De Rossi has always had a strong working relationship with Antonio Conte, though, having played under him for the Italian national team.

Inter’s interest is described as ‘nice but not serious’, indicating how the club have not made any official approach to De Rossi.

However, the club’s desire to sign Italian players – with Stefano Sensi about to arrive from Sassuolo – makes it possible they could pursue a move.

De Rossi has also been linked with the coaching job at Italy’s under-21s, although Gigi Di Biagio remains in charge for now.
