Milan owner Paolo Scaroni has denied he made comments today suggesting San Siro could be demolished.

The Rossoneri have agreed with Inter on plans to knock down the stadium and replace it with a brand new complex, which they would reportedly want ready for the 2022-23 season.

However, Scaroni appeared to retract comments publicly confirming this intention earlier on in the day.

“I never spoke about the idea San Siro could be demolished,” Scaroni was reported as saying via Ansa.

“It’s not something which is up to us given that Milan city council are the ones who own San Siro.”

La Repubblica last week reported Inter and Milan’s plans would cost €700 million, with the aim of beginning building work by the end of next season.

The Nerazzurri’s chief executive Alessandro Antonello earlier said Inter needed to ‘look to the future’ after Sala had voiced his opposition to the idea of knocking down San Siro before the 2026 Winter Olympics.
