Cagliari owner Tommaso Giulini last night confirmed the club had made no further progress with Inter in talks for Nicolo Barella.

The parties have failed to reach an agreement for the 22-year-old with the Nerazzurri failing to meet Barella’s €50 million price tag.

Giulini had dinner with sporting director Marcello Carli and head coach Rolando Maran in Milan last night and was intercepted by Sky Sport.

“Barella will certainly have a few more days holiday than the rest of the squad, having played in the Under-21 Euros until yesterday,” Giulini said.

“There are no developments regarding our talks with Inter for the player.”

Maran was interviewed shortly beforehand and remained tight-lipped when asked about the prospect of losing Barella.

“You’d have to ask the president if he’ll be our only significant sale this summer,” he said.

“It’s a great shame Italy have been knocked out of the Euros, we were all hoping for a different result.”
