Inter have received a boost in their bid to sign Romelu Lukaku after Manchester United softened their hard-line bargaining stance, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils still want €85 million to part company with the forward, who has long-since chosen the Nerazzurri as his preferred destination for next season.

However, they are now willing to drop the sum of money which would need to be paid up front and accept the rest as add-ons.

Inter’s aim of securing a deal for around €60 million remains a long way off but United’s change of heart is the first step towards starting serious negotiations.

Lukaku scored 15 goals in all competitions for Manchester United last season as they finished sixth in the Premier League and fell out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

The Belgian scored twice on a memorable night in March as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 in the French capital.
