Inter are considering an offer from Monaco for their outgoing midfielder Joao Mario, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Ligue 1 side want to sign the Portuguese international on loan with an option to buy, which would become mandatory should he meet certain targets next season.

Mario is worth €18 million in Inter’s financial records at the moment and the club are unlikely to find a buyer who wants a permanent deal.

The Nerazzurri could therefore accept Monaco’s proposal and guarantee themselves a capital gain for the 2019-20 season.

Inter want to get rid of the player’s €3 million wage pack and sources elsewhere yesterday reported this salary would not represent a problem for Monaco.

Mario is a transfer target for Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim, who coached the 26-year-old while he was in charge of Sporting Lisbon five years ago.

The midfielder made 20 league appearances under Luciano Spalletti last season, scoring once in a 5-0 win over Genoa.
