Wolverhampton Wanderers remain interested in signing Inter’s young defender Zinho Vanheusden, according to reports in Belgium.

Vanheusden was expected to rejoin Standard Liege this summer in a deal worth €20 million, having played for them on loan since January 2018.

However, Het Nieuwsblad today reported Standard face competition from the Premier League club in the battle for the 19-year-old.

Southampton and Brighton had also made approaches for Vanheusden, but the Saints have withdrawn their interest while the player himself has turned down the Seagulls.

Vanheusden was a first-choice centre-back in Michel Preud’homme’s side last season before a knee injury ruled him out of the end-of-year playoffs.

Wolves were the surprise package in the Premier League during the 2018-19 campaign, qualifying for the Europa League under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Inter will aim to sell the defender before Sunday in order to record a capital gain that will help them comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
