Inter are the most likely beneficiary from the current standby in negotiations with Cagliari for Nicolo Barella, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Barella has left for his summer holidays and is convinced he will ultimately fulfill his dream of playing for the Nerazzurri next season.

Cagliari would prefer to sell the midfielder to Roma, though, who have offered a part-exchange deal including Luca Pellegrini and Gregoire Defrel.

It is thought that the longer talks remain at a standstill the harder it will be for the Rossoblu to choose Barella’s next destination for him.

Inter have stopped increasing their offer for the 22-year-old and are confident their strategy will eventually prove the right one.

Barella will not complete a move to San Siro until the start of next month, meaning Inter can no longer use the deal to secure capital gains from Cagliari.

This would appear to reduce the likelihood of players such as Federico Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni being included in an agreement.
