Inter’s decision to sign Diego Godin on a free transfer was lauded today by director of Sky Sport 24 Matteo Marani.

The Uruguayan international will leave Atletico Madrid when his contract expires on Sunday and join the Nerazzurri ahead of preseason training.

Marani compared Godin’s arrival to when Juventus signed Andrea Barzagli and analysed Inter’s transfer strategy.

“They’ve added experience with Godin, who for a long time was the best defender in Europe and is used to winning things,” he said.

“His arrival along with those of Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku would suggest to me Inter will be a physically strong team next season.”

Godin helped Atletico win the La Liga title in 2014 and reach two Champions League finals, both of which they lost against Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old is currently representing Uruguay at the Copa America, where Oscar Tabarez’s side are due to face Peru in Saturday’s final quarter-final.
