A move to Inter is Nicolo Barella’s preferred destination but he is not opposed to other destinations according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

Roma have reached an agreement in principle with Cagliari over the Italian international on the basis of €35 million plus striker Gregoire Defrel.

The Giallorossi now need to agree terms with the player, who has already got an agreement with Inter’s management over a long-term contract.

The 22-year-old, whilst wanting to move to Inter, does not want to hurt his beloved Cagliari and that is why he is open to other clubs other than Inter.

This is understood to have Roma believing that they can succeed in signing Barella, who was looking all set to sign for the Nerazzurri.

At the beginning of next week Roma and Cagliari will meet to hold further talks where Roma hope Cagliari will give their blessing to Defrel’s inclusion. If they do, Roma will make a formal offer.

Inter’s current offer is of €36 million plus €4 million in easily achievable bonuses plus the loan of two players but it looks like they will have to raise their offer further now.

Inter could also speak with Barella again and ask him to honour the agreement they had.
