Former Inter defender Massimo Paganin surprisingly encouraged Inter today to sell Lautaro Martinez to reinforce their squad.
The forward was linked by Spanish media with a move to Barcelona at the weekend, although reports the Catalans were prepared to trigger his release clause have since faded.
Paganin told Radio Sportiva he would sacrifice El Toro if it meant Inter could sign players in other positions.
“Inter need experience in charisma in their side, players like they’ve just signed in Diego Godin,” he said.
“I’d sell Lautaro to sign one or two players in key positions, for example in midfield where they need more quality.”
Paganin approved the Nerazzurri’s decision to sign Stefano Sensi while praising their pursuit of Nicolo Barella.
“Sensi is a play-maker and has the same position as Marcelo Brozovic, but Inter have still strengthened with his arrival because they need depth in their squad,” Paganin added.
“Barella is a sought-after player in Italy because he’s already experienced and still has room for improvement.”
The former centre-back then said he would sign Romelu Lukaku over Edin Dzeko if he had to choose.
“Lukaku is younger and gives you more goals. He does remind you of Dzeko for physical stature, though.”
