Inter are still determined to sign Nicolò Barella from Cagliari as the midfielder is a fundamental target for Antonio Conte, according to Sky Sport.

Nerazzurri supporters were alarmed yesterday when Tommaso Giulini told reporters he had agreed a deal with Roma, before claiming he hadn’t heard from Inter in ’20 days’.

Giulini’s comments have lost importance in the 24 hours that have followed, though, after Barella once again reiterated his desire to join Inter last night.

Inter remain confident of securing Barella’s services with the TV station reporting Conte is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old.

Cagliari’s desire to earn as much as possible from a deal for the midfielder means negotiations could still take a while.

Barella is a prodigal son for the club, however, so it is unlikely they will force him to make a decision against his wishes.

Inter will continue to wait for the Italy international safe in the knowledge he wants to sign for them.
