Inter enjoyed a successful day in their pursuit of Nicolò Barella yesterday as the midfielder again rejected a move to Roma, Corriere dello Sport reported.

Beppe Marotta and Tommaso Giulini did not meet to discuss the midfielder at the Lega Calcio’s headquarters, but the Nerazzurri’s position was strengthened by developments elsewhere.

Barella’s agent Alessandro Beltrami met with Roma’s management and confirmed his client had chosen to join the Nerazzurri.

“Conte is courting the midfielder constantly and Barella is very keen to work with the former Italy boss,” the paper said this morning.

“When news spread of the unsuccessful meeting between Roma and Beltrami the satisfaction at Inter’s offices was tangible.”

Marotta and Piero Ausilio have offered €36 million to sign Barella, which could rise to €40 million with add-ons.

The pair believe this is an important enough bid for the 22-year-old and do not intend to raise it any further.

Giulini told reporters yesterday Barella would make a decision on his future ‘in the next two days’, but the Italy international has seemingly made his mind up already.
