Inter stand a strong chance of finalising a deal to sign Nicolò Barella this week after Cagliari’s sporting director Marcello Carli flew to Milan last night.

FcInterNews.it reported Carli will meet Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio shortly, with both clubs intent on putting an end to their summer-long transfer saga.

Cagliari owner Tommaso Giulini told reporters on Monday he had agreed to sell Barella to Roma, causing concern among some Inter supporters.

However, Barella has a ‘very solid agreement’ with Inter and will continue to reiterate his desire to join the Nerazzurri until his wish is granted.

The midfielder’s agent Alessandro Beltrami reiterated his client’s position when he met Inter’s management at their offices in Milan yesterday.

Barella made his decision a long time ago and there does not appear to be any alternative in his mind.

Inter and Cagliari are said to be ‘positive’ about the chance of reaching an agreement this week, moving him ever closer to becoming an Inter player.
