George Puscas today told reporters he would prefer to stay in Italy next season after missing out on a permanent move to Palermo.

The Romanian under-21 striker was due to sign for the Rosanero following a season-long loan, but they failed to register for Serie B and defaulted on their €3 million payment.

Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, Puscas said he was keeping his options open but admitted he wanted to stay in the country where he has developed as a player.

“I’m looking at other leagues as well, but it’s not only down to me,” he explained.

“I’ll have a few days on holiday and then I’ll decide on my future together with my agent.

“I’m really sorry for what happened to Palermo. I’d like to thank the fans because they’ve always supported me and don’t deserve to go down to Serie D.”

Puscas scored nine goals in Sicily last season as Palermo finished third in the regular season, before a 20-point deduction denied them the chance to take part in the promotion playoffs.
