Inter could take a crucial step towards signing Nicolò Barella tomorrow when Beppe Marotta restarts talks with Cagliari owner Tommaso Giulini, according to reports in Sardinia.

La Nuova Sardegna confirmed the midfielder has decided to join the Nerazzurri and will not have his mind changed.

Barella’s agent Alessandro Beltrami yesterday told Cagliari they would not consider other destinations, forcing the Rossoblu to speak to Inter again.

Inter might adjust their offer by switching it from €36+4 million to €40 million up front, but they will not add in any other players as makeweights.

Roma had reached a verbal agreement with Giulini for a deal worth €35 million plus Gregoire Defrel, but the Giallorossi have begun pursuing other targets.

Marotta and Piero Ausilio do not want to get involved in a bidding war and hope their new bid will be enough to break Cagliari’s resistance.

Giulini has been adamant from the start he would not accept anything less than €50 million for Barella, but it remains to be seen whether that will remain the case.
