Joao Miranda is inclined to stay at Inter for another season despite the Brazilian entering the final year of his contract, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The defender surprised supporters on Tuesday by telling reporters he would like to remain with the Nerazzurri, following Brazil’s Copa America semi-final win over Argentina.

The 34-year-old might have been won over by the renewed ambition at the club, with Diego Godin’s arrival enabling him to reunite with an old teammate and friend.

It is more likely, however, that Miranda has realised there are no clubs willing to guarantee him the same salary he is earning at Inter.

Paris Saint-Germain were briefly interested earlier in the year, but the French champions only offered a short-term contract and have since disappeared from sight.

Flamengo and Sao Paulo would have wanted to bring him back to Brazil, but neither can offer him €3 million in wages even if they spread the salary across multiple seasons.

Miranda has been on the market for six months but nobody has come forward with a convincing proposal for him.

The Brazilian international is therefore keen to stay and carry on filling the role of standby behind Inter’s more favoured defenders.
