Nicolò Barella only wants a move to Inter and will not be forced to join Roma against the midfielder’s wishes, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Cagliari recently briefed reporters that the player had pledged to do whatever was best for the club economically, implying he would sign for the Giallorossi after they made the highest offer.

However, the fact the 22-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Inter ‘completely disavows’ the Rossoblu’s claims and weakens their bargaining position.

“The work Barella’s agent Alessandro Beltrami is doing is proving a great help for Inter,” the paper said this morning.

“The most likely scenario is that Cagliari and Inter get back in contact after 20 days of silence and reach the agreement Antonio Conte is waiting for.”

In any case, Barella will not begin preseason training with any club until the end of July, having represented Italy at this summer’s European Under-21 Championships.
