Roma and Cagliari are both resigned to the fact Nicolò Barella will ultimately sign for Inter, according to Tuttosport.

The Giallorossi had agreed a deal with Tommaso Giulini for €35 million plus Gregoire Defrel, while Inter were stuck on €36+4 million.

However, Barella has insisted from the start he will only join the Nerazzurri and shows no sign of changing his mind.

Cagliari’s only option now is to try and squeeze as much money out of Inter so their offer moves closer to Roma’s.

Giulini spoke to Barella on the phone yesterday and assured the player he would not pick a fight with Inter, effectively ruling out the possibility he would keep him at Cagliari for another season.

He also asked the midfielder to invite the Nerazzurri’s management to increase their offer, though, so the clubs can reach an agreement in short order.

Barella does not return from his summer holidays until the end of July, having only started them after Italy’s elimination from the European Under-21 Championships.

Inter want the certainty of having signed him as soon as possible, though, so Antonio Conte can continue planning for the new season without any distractions.
