Cagliari will find it ‘painful’ to sell Nicolò Barella this summer as the midfielder awaits a move to Inter, the Rossoblu’s sporting director admitted today.

Various reports have suggested Barella has agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri, but Inter have not met Cagliari’s €50 million asking price yet.

Marcello Carli spoke to L’Unione Sarda ahead of this morning’s edition and couldn’t hide his disappointment at the 22-year-old’s impending departure.

“It won’t be difficult to sell him but it will be painful,” Carli said.

“A talent like him deserves to wait for the right moment to leave. We’ll move on without him by working on the mentality of our younger players.”

Barella made 35 appearances for Cagliari in Serie A last season, scoring once against Atalanta and creating four assists.

He also represented Italy at last month’s European Under-21 Championships, where Gigi Di Biagio’s side were surprisingly knocked out at the group stage.
