Antonio Conte helped Arturo Vidal become ‘one of the most complete midfielders in the world’ while the pair worked together at Juventus, as recalled by Gazzetta dello Sport today.

The paper linked Inter with a move for the Chilean international this morning and explained why Conte would be more than happy to team up with him again.

Vidal scored 40 goals in 126 matches for Juve under Conte and found the net 18 times during the 2013-14 campaign alone.

“When it’s time to go into battle you always find Vidal on the front-line,” Gazzetta said.

“He’s decisive, determined and willing to help out his team-mates. A true leader, not just at club level but also with Chile’s golden generation.

“Vidal developed at a dizzying rate at Juventus and he gave most of the credit to the man from Lecce.”

Conte abandoned his 4-4-2 system in Turin to accommodate Vidal when he signed from Bayer Leverkusen, infamously saying on one occasion that he would ‘go to war’ alongside the midfielder.

The 32-year-old made 53 appearances for Barcelona last season after joining from Bayern Munich.
