Inter are very close to agreeing a deal for Nicolò Barella after holding fresh talks with Cagliari this evening, according to Sky Sport.

The Rossoblu have finally agreed to drop their €50 million asking price after weeks of resistance, allowing the midfielder to leave for €45 million plus add-ons.

The clubs must now discuss the installments in which Inter will pay the fee, as well as the formula for the deal, but the impression is Cagliari will concede further ground there.

Inter want to finalise the deal in the next 48 hours, meaning they could announce Barella’s arrival before the weekend.

Marotta and Giulini were both in Milan today for their weekly meeting at the Lega Serie A’s headquarters, with Monday’s papers suggesting they could use the opportunity to meet again.

Cagliari had no option but to bend to Inter’s requests after Roma officially withdrew their interest last week.

Barella has been adamant for weeks that he only wanted the Nerazzurri and it seems his dream is finally about to become reality.
