Inter have increased their offer to Cagliari for Nicolò Barella so the Nerazzurri can pay the transfer fee in installments, according to Sky Sport.

The clubs met in Milan on Monday afternoon and made significant progress in their negotiations for the midfielder, who agreed personal terms weeks ago.

Barella is due to join Inter for €45 million plus add-ons, a fee that lies between their previous €40 million offer and Cagliari’s €50 million asking price.

The formula is likely to be a very expensive loan deal with an obligation to buy, enabling Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio to spread out the payment across more years.

Antonio Conte took charge of his first training session at Inter on Monday as he began a one-week training camp in Switzerland.

Inter will play Lugano in their inaugural preseason friendly at the weekend before they jet off to Asia for a summer tour.

Barella has been adamant in recent weeks that he only wanted to sign for Inter and it seems his dream is close to becoming reality.
