Serie A Will Keep ‘Symmetrical’ Calendar For 2019-20 Season

Serie A will retain its ‘symmetrical’ fixture calendar for the 2019-20 season, the Lega Calcio announced this afternoon.

Inter have always played their opponents in exactly the same order in the first and second half of their league campaigns, but the Lega’s chief executive Luigi De Siervo had been considering the idea of holding two separate ‘draws’ to sort fixtures before and after matchday 19.

This will not take place, though, albeit the Lega will carry out a study to analyse other types of calendar compilations.

The new season will begin on the weekend of 24-25 August and is due to end on Sunday 24 May 2020.

Inter faced two tricky runs in their fixture schedule last season, with consecutive matches against Milan and Lazio and then back-to-back clashes against Roma and Juventus.

Removing symmetry from the calendar would have meant they only had to survive such a pile-up once in a season.

Serie A 2019-20 will also see the Boxing Day round of fixtures disappear, having only been introduced last year by the Lega’s previous administration.
