Andrea Ranocchia today assured Inter supporters they would do everything to honour the Nerazzurri’s shirt this season.

Antonio Conte oversaw his first day of training since being appointed head coach yesterday, with Inter’s first friendly coming at the weekend against Lugano.

Ranocchia warned his teammates they faced stiff competition in Serie A and added they had high expectations on their shoulders.

“We’re not interested in making big statements, we need to work hard and make sure we’re ready,” the defender told Sky Sport.

“The coach will make his decisions based on how we train, how we conduct ourselves on a daily basis and what happens in our private lives. He looks at everything.

“It doesn’t matter what anyone did in the past, we need to prove we can play for this team.”

Conte coached Ranocchia while he was at Arezzo and Bari and the centre-back said it was a pleasure to be reunited at Inter.

“He’s shown huge determination to work hard in these first two days, like he always has,” Ranocchia added.

“He’s transferring his enthusiasm to the entire group. I’m happy and confident for the season ahead.”

Ranocchia refused to comment when asked about the uncomfortable situation regarding Mauro Icardi and Radja Nainggolan.

“They’re training with us but the group will not take a position in this story,” he said.

“We have to stay out of these decisions, they’re between the two of them and the club.”
