Cagliari boss Rolando Maran described Nicolò Barella as ‘an extraordinary player’ tonight ahead of the midfielder’s move to Inter.

The Nerazzurri have agreed a loan with obligation to buy which could rise to €50 million, although the way the bonuses have been structured make €45 million a more likely final fee.

Maran appeared on Sky Sport’s daily transfer program and explained what he believed made the 22-year-old such a special player.

“Everyone knows the kind of technical and moral qualities Nicolò has,” Maran said.

“He’s loved and appreciated by everyone around Sardinia. Let’s see what decision he takes on his future.

“Barella is capable of playing in various different positions and he has an exceptional dynamism.

“He’s got a lot of room for improvement still but he needs to have the freedom to make forward runs and attack open spaces. That’s what he excels most at.”

Barella scored once and created four assists last season as Maran’s side secured a 15th-place finish in Serie A.
