Inter’s vice-president Javier Zanetti has backed Antonio Conte to make a success of his first season with the Nerazzurri.

Conte told supporters upon being appointed that he had joined Inter to win trophies, despite the club’s eight-year drought since the 2011 Coppa Italia final.

Speaking to TNT Sports yesterday, Zanetti assured Conte was the right coach for Inter and talked up their chances of having ‘a great season’.

“Conte knows Italian football well and has a lot of experience,” Pupi said.

“He’s a proven winner who has done well everywhere he’s gone. We’re starting a new season with a group that realises Inter have big ambitions.”

Inter will make their first official outing under Conte on Sunday when they face Lugano at the end of their Swiss training camp.

The Nerazzurri are then due to face Manchester United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in Asia before returning to Europe for matches with Tottenham and Valencia.
